New Studio

In April 2018, Kim left The Hearth (www.thehearth.co.uk) after eight happy years of sharing the Attic Studio with artist Cathy Duncan. She is now back in the country at her home studio, while Cathy has expanded to fill the space available in the attic at The Hearth. New projects await in the environment Kim loves the best, with inspiration and source materials daily to hand. Nothing quite like a clear out and sort out to make an artist feel fresh, and she is looking forward to what happens next!

Stilled Lives

Shepherd's Dene, Riding Mill, Northumberland NE44 6AF
www.shepherdsdene.co.uk
Residency April - October 2015
Exhibition 20 October 2015 - 28 February 2016
Private View and Poetry Reading 25 October 2015
Open Afternoon, Sunday 24 January 2016 2:00-5:00 pm
Kim, and artists Cathy Duncan, Jenny Mathers and Teresa Toms, have worked over seven months in the grounds of Shepherd's Dene in an exciting new residency. Their work will be exhibited in the House along with two guest artists, Jacqueline Quinn and photographer Sara Woodman.
Kim drew tools life-size in the Potting Shed. Of this she says: "Working in the Potting Shed at Shepherd's Dene has been a joy, with the freedom to develop my drawing in the peace of a walled garden, accompanied only by birdsong and the occasional visitor. I have been absorbed in drawing old tools life-size, experimenting with found papers and graphite, using different marks, tracings, and concentrated areas of detail. There is something about the age and use of garden tools which says the most to me about the hidden work and life of a gardener, in all gardens. A spade meets soil, a rake prepares tilth, a trowel tucks in a plant. What follows then is the explosion of green and colour from their efforts."

Border Song
Thomas Storey Gallery, Lancaster
3 - 29 October 2015
Artist Kim Lewis and poet Linda France have collaborated on three separate occasions and this exhibition collects all their work together. While each project is distinctive, the common thread is the subtle conversation between literary text and original graphic image. Border Song has toured to several galleries and book festivals in the north east but is now moving to the north west to coincide with the 37th Lancaster Litfest (www.litfest.org), where Linda will be presenting her poetry.
In addition to images from Flying, Border Song and Through the Garden Gate, Kim will be showing new work in response to Linda's latest poem Anthology
(www.lindafrance.co.uk). In 2014 Linda won First Prize in the National Poetry Competition.

Photography and Residency
Kim was artist in residence with Demi-paradise Productions, the resident professional theatre company at Lancaster Castle, for their 2012 promenade production of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Sue McCormick. She returned as a documentary photographer for the ensemble's ghost story reading events, Christmas concerts and two more Shakespeare productions: Othello in 2014, directed by Louie Ingham, and Measure for Measure
in 2016, directed by Joyce Branagh. Her photographs were used as publicity images for all three shows. Kim's work was subsequently shown, along with the other five artists in residence, at these galleries: Lancaster University, Dukes Theatre Lancaster, Theatre by the Lake Keswick and Queens Hall Hexham.

Hareshaw Press
Hareshaw Press, founded in 2012, exists to publish works by writers and artists in small delightful editions. Kim illustrated two of their first publications.
Border Song

‘Border Song’, an exciting first edition pamphlet from the newly formed Hareshaw Press, is the result of a collaboration between Kim and poet Linda France. Inspired by the Old Testament Song of Songs, Linda’s stirring poem captures the sense of longing for the beloved, layered with images of land as a mirror to the heart. Kim’s handsome drawings reflect the intimate texture and powerful sense of nature found in wild Northumberland places. www.lindafrance.co.uk
ISBN 978-0-9573777-0-7.
Through the Garden Gate

Through the Garden Gate’ is a pamphlet of poems by Linda France, resulting from her Leverhulme Residency at Newcastle University’s Moorbank Botanic Garden, and is beautifully illustrated with delicate drawings by Kim Lewis. www.lindafrance.co.uk
ISBN 978-0-9563837-1-6
Book Covers

Kim has had the pleasure of designing a cover for author Irvine Hunt's soon-to-be-published The Phantom Sister, a beautifully written tale for children about a young girl and her encounter with a ghostly sister.
