Border Song
Kim and poet Linda France received a VARC (Visual Arts in Rural Communities) award to work on a new collaboration responding to the North Tyne Valley in Northumberland. Their result, the pamphlet Border Song, celebrates love of the land, love of spirit, and love between two people in a series of corresponding images and text.
Kim’s sketches, photographs and large detailed drawings reflected the intimate texture and powerful sense of nature found in wild Northumberland places. Inspired by the Old Testament Song of Songs, Linda’s stirring poem captured the sense of longing for the beloved, layered with images of land as a mirror to the text. An exhibition of the work toured for several years.
